Freelance writer + commentator based in Calgary, Alberta. Words in National Post, The Line & more!

About me

I am a prolific commentator on politics in Canada and beyond. My writing seeks to spark needed - if uncomfortable - national conversations on hot-button topics like population aging, generational inequality, Canadian cultural policy, and diversity in politics.

My writing regularly appears in the Issues & Ideas section of the National Post, where I provide a millennial and small-c conservative perspective on issues of the day. My columns consistently elicit hundreds of comments online and often trend on social media. I was the first NP columnist to write about Rishi Sunak’s historic breakthrough as the United Kingdom’s first prime minister of  Indian descent. My writing has also appeared on the paper’s front page.

My byline can also be found in The Line, The Hub, Policy Options, CBC.Ca, and other outlets. My article ‘Poilievre's path to power may be his complicated, very modern family’ (published in The Line) was featured in Navireads, the official reading list of Navigator Ltd.

I am a regular on-air commentator/panelist for CBC News Network, where I analyze breaking news stories from Alberta. I also do radio commentary for 770 CHQR (Calgary) and have appeared on The Mike Farwell Show (CityNews Kitchener) and West of Centre podcast (CBC).

I spent five years teaching post-secondary politics and international affairs, holding visiting instructor positions at Wake Forest University (Winston-Salem, NC) and Centre College (Danville, KY). While at Wake Forest, I was named a Delta Zeta Faculty Member of the Month (April 2019).

My peer-reviewed research has been published in the Canadian Review of Social Policy and The Independent Review. My scholarship on the politics of family policy in Canada has appeared on the syllabi of multiple college and university courses.

Education

I hold a Bachelor of Arts (with Honours) from the University of British Columbia and a Master’s and PhD in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. My master’s thesis was awarded the James W. Prothro Award for outstanding research by a graduate student in political science (2013).

Personal life

I live in Calgary with my fiancée and our cat Saylem. I’m an avid reader and watcher of college basketball. I’m a dedicated fan of the North Carolina Tar Heels men's basketball team - - especially when they’re playing Duke.
